If you told me at the beginning of the year that I would find out about a Bruce Lee anime, I would say, yeah, that sounds about right for 2023. Now, if you told me, I would find out about the anime, which looks amazing; I would say, yeah, of course, it’s Bruce Lee. The House of Lee teaser has dropped, and you know this writer has seen it. Let’s unpack it.
A New Introduction to Bruce Lee
We all remember our first introduction to Bruce Lee. For me, it is his character in Enter the Dragon. Now, there will be a new introduction to the genre through House of Lee, an anime about Bruce Lee, specifically a quote from Mr. Lee:
“Those who are unaware they are walking in darkness will never seek the light.”
All the reports state the plot will be focused on Bruce Lee needing to assemble a team of warriors to defeat the darkness that has plagued their lands. Besides Bruce Lee, the other seller is the anime aesthetic; it looks like something ripped out of the ’80s or ’90s. The trailer comes to light after the 50th anniversary of “Enter the Dragon.”
The Next Chapter for the Lee Legacy
The show is coming from the daughter of Bruce Lee, Shannon Lee. Shibuya is the anime studio putting it out, where Mrs. Lee saw a short film called “White Rabbit” and decided to have them be the partners for “House of Lee.” Shannon Lee is known as the creator of the anime project, taking from personal experience.
Shannon Lee has worked hard to keep her father in pop culture circles. In 2019, she announced that “Warrior” would air on Cinemax (now on MAX). The TV show is based on the story Bruce Lee tried to sell in the 1970s called “Ah Sahm.” It didn’t get bought and instead was followed up with a TV show called “Kung-Fu, starring David Carradine.” Now, it has been going for three seasons, and once the Hollywood Strikes are over, we will know about the fourth.
At least House of Lee is set to release in 2024, and we are so excited. It feels so weird to report on an anime about Bruce Lee because you think it would have been done way back when. Either way, we are happy to see Bruce Lee back on our screens, though he has never left our hearts.
